Brand new cinematic, alt-pop duo NIGHTBUS are poised to announce their debut release with the arrival of ‘Smalltalk’ due this September. Fusing reflective vulnerability and evocative songwriting, ‘Smalltalk’ is a genre-bending sonic gem channelling a 90s aesthetic over a swirling soundtrack.
Vocalist Louise explains: “Smalltalk is our debut release from a collection of tracks written during the pandemic, writing together we could tune out of the noise, I felt totally unselfconscious which is a testament to our synergy. The lyrics are all drawn from my journals, scribing my dreams and struggles with mental health. I don’t always know how to talk about it but songwriting just flows. The track has a nostalgic feel to it, written with my teenage self in mind.”
Created in a basement studio in Brighton, ‘Smalltalk’ playfully uncloaks the highs and lows of nightlife, the darkness of being alone and awake in early hours and the sweet tonic of friendship, of just being there.
Growing up with myriad influences, NIGHTBUS (Sena Verdi multi-instrumentalist and producer, Lyonheart and Louise Wellby lyricist and vocalist, Skylu) layer synth-led cinematic sound-beds with spirited and real vocals, nodding to queens such as Sade, Amy Winehouse and Madonna. Early 2020, British-Iranian producer Sena and London born lyricist Louise first connected, unlocking a potent creative chemistry. Having been musically match-made in the midst of a global pandemic, NIGHTBUS was born.
The end result is a perfect symbiosis of Louise’s raw, truthful storytelling complemented by Sena’s hook-driven, cinematic production.
