“Bleeding Out” is another genre-bending affair anchored to her enthralling vocals, with pain-stricken lyrics that embody the tension between hopelessness and self-reliance. It begins with a cinematic intro of pensive piano chords, dramatic horns, and glimmering pads before erupting into a hard dance-infused drop, driven by thunderous kicks, psy basslines, and anthemic synths.
For Herr, the creation of “Bleeding Out” was deeply personal. “I started writing this song when I went on a solo retreat to Joshua Tree,” she recalls. “I forgot my microphone at home, so I recorded the whole vocal on my MacBook Pro. There was so much emotion in the original takes that I ended up leaving those in for the final version.”
The song captures her struggle to break free from creative blocks and rediscover the joy in making music. “I kept trying to recreate the style of music I’d been making recently, and it felt forced and inauthentic. I decided to just have fun and create without a goal in mind, and ended up with a song that feels really genuine and fun.”
“Bleeding Out” follows Pauline Herr’s 2021 debut on Heaven Sent alongside helloworld with their single “voices,” which gained recognition from outlets like This Song Is Sick, Dancing Astronaut, and CULTR. Beyond the studio, she is building momentum on stage, with upcoming performances with Kaivon at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles and select dates on San Holo’s ↑% Tour, including stops at ADE and London’s Ministry of Sound.
