Donning his mixed Iraqi and Kiwi heritage like the highest point of pride, Auckland-grown Mikeey is a bubbling producer that’s focused on showcasing his culture and musical interests via a host of electronic genres. In the past few years, the 21-year-old prodigal artist has been exploring his Middle Eastern roots with a signature sound that blends UKG, hip-hop, house, and emotioned-packed electronic music. For his label debut on NIGHTMODE, Mikeyy gets close and personal by sharing a track that pulled him out of a dark rut in his life recently.
Melancholic yet deceptively uplifting, “BREATHE” is a melodic house track meant to offer the world a shoulder to lean on. It bolsters his soft, breathy vocals and smooth falsetto, whose lyrics are the only sign pointing towards a suffocating anguish. The somber subject matter is contrasted by the radiant stutter synth leads, shimmering atmospherics, lofty melodic stabs, and shuffling groove, which hopes to guide tortured souls into the light at the end of the tunnel.
The single has already earned early radio support on George FM (New Zealand), a staple from his homeland. Previously, Mikeyy has also placed at #4 New Zealand ‘Official Hot Singles’ chart with his breakout “Promises” collab alongside Lee Mvtthews. With his newest offering “Breathe,” Mikeyy positions himself as a breath of fresh air for house music fans, as well as those that need encouragement on their path for mental wellness.
“‘Breathe’ was written in a time when I was going through a rough patch mentally. I built the chords in the breakdown to feel like I was almost giving myself a hug, and the lyrics reflect on the feeling you get when you have that pit in your stomach and feel trapped in it. The drop is high energy and features uplifting synths to help uplift both the listener and myself while I was making it.” –Mikeyy
Mikeyy’s new single “BREATHE” is available now on all platforms via NIGHTMODE.
