Across six tracks, ‘Where We Begin’ charts the evolution of a relationship, each song representing a pivotal chapter bolstered by Amidy’s enchanting sound design. “Undone” stands out as a melodic drum & bass anthem, exploring the hesitation and fear that come with opening up in a new relationship. Amidy’s shimmering sound design, layered with lush atmospheres, crisp drum patterns, and uplifting synths, captures the vulnerability of breaking down personal, heavily guarded walls. The track’s euphoric tension gives way to an uplifting release, making it one of the EP’s most poignant moments.
“Homesick” shifts dramatically from Amidy’s emotive lyricism and soft melody into a sudden, thunderous dubstep drop, mirroring the song’s emotional intensity. The contrast between the tender verses and heavy, pulsating bass heightens the sense of longing, while sharp percussion and dark atmospheres generate this track’s visceral tension. Amidy, born Nolan Atkins, began his career as a producer before finding his voice as a singer-songwriter while studying at ICON Collective. Transitioning from fronting an alternative rock band to electronic music, he quickly mastered both production and vocals, creating a distinctive sound that combines honest storytelling with cinematic atmospheres. His breakthrough came with his collaboration with Seven Lions on “Shadows,” which highlighted his vocal prowess and marked a turning point in his career. He’s become a familiar face on the Lost In Dreams label within the last few years, making his mark through a number of solo offerings including “Love You Enough,” “Tattoo,” and “Ever Known,” as well as his massive “Nirvana” collab featured on Crystal Skies’ sophomore album ‘Stardust’ release at the top of 2024.
With his most ambitious project to date, Amidy extends his multifaceted skillset into a number of neighboring electronic music genres, each dripping with pure emotion.
