LA-based producer, vocalist, and songwriter Pauline Herr returns to bitbird with HIGHONYOU, a techno-trap track built around one of the most disorienting feelings there is: falling for someone and the intoxicating early days of a new relationship.
Herr wrote the track after meeting her now-boyfriend in Tokyo, channeling that rush of early-relationship intensity into heartfelt lyrics — “high on you, it’s the feeling that I’m chasing / high on you, I don’t wanna waste a moment” — and building the production outward from there.
“Recently, I’ve been really inspired by old Virtual Self songs, soft piano chords, emotional vocals, glitchy FX, and video games: this song is a reflection of that, with my own personal twist on it”, Pauline shares — and it shows.
The intro leans into glitchy vocal chops and warped FX with a distinctly late-2000s rave edge, before the first drop hits with near-overbearing 808s and a raw techno intensity that could have come straight off Berghain’s main floor at 4am. The second drop pulls back into more classic trap territory, with an almost euphoric lead — the contrast is what gives the track its character.
The release comes ahead of her June 6 appearance at Beyond Wonderland Chicago, with previous live credits including Ultra Music Festival, EDC Las Vegas, and Electric Zoo.
