The two Belgian producers set sail with their moody, storm-swept drum & bass collab, an absolute festival-ripping ID that has been blowing up their sets for the past year.
Primate and Captain Bass lock back into formation on “Irresistible,” a moody, sea-sprayed drum & bass weapon marking their debut on Bassrush Records. The Belgian powerhouses—each carving their own lane across Europe’s jump-up and dancefloor circuits—channel their long-standing synergy into a track steeped in mystique and movement. Built around an infectious vocal line that frames attraction as a lighthouse-like pull, the single captures the moment when curiosity becomes compulsion, when the unknown becomes impossible to turn away from.

The lyrics drift through shanty-tinged undertones, floating above oscillating organ leads and euphoric sylenth chords that flash like beacons in dense fog. Wailing electric guitar licks add a rogue-rock edge, cutting through the haze as tightly engineered drums churn with dancefloor urgency. Primate and Captain Bass turn the arrangement into a cinematic pursuit—dark, stormy, and full of forward drive, engineered to feel like a DnB voyage set on conquering the seven seas.
Breaking down how the collab came to be, Primate shares: “‘Irresistible” started during last year’s summer before our Pukkelpop debut—a huge milestone for both of us. We’d already played back-to-back sets and released a few successful collabs, but, for Pukkelpop, we wanted something that stood out: a track with a longer, more suspenseful intro and a catchier, more commercial edge without sacrificing the heavy drop our crowd expects. Instead of softening the drop to make it more accessible, we built the energy in the build-up: a strong vocal hook, stretched-out tension, and a long rising section that plays with anticipation. When the drop hits, it’s driven by one sustained bass that keeps things easy to follow for a festival crowd while still hitting hard. We added a subtle summer tint to the track, and since then, we’ve been playing it in almost every set for the past year; it always connects. ‘Irresistible’ is the balance between hype, melody, and impact that we were aiming for.”
Their return arrives on the heels of back-to-back momentum, as well as last year’s collaborative cuts “Body” and “Everything You Say,” both of which signaled their natural chemistry across tempos and moods.
Ghent-born Primate has spent close to a decade evolving from jump-up firestarter to one of Belgium’s most versatile DnB forces, swinging between aggressive, screech-heavy grit and melodic rollers shaped by his jazz-infused musical upbringing. His catalog touches collaborations with Turno, Majistrate, and Pirapus, while his live calendar continues expanding with high-profile plays including an upcoming NYE set at The Nest in Nottingham alongside Bou and Friction. Whether leaning into harmonic textures or doubling down on raw weight, Primate brings a polished, emotional edge that sets him apart.
Captain Bass, hailing from Herne, has built a reputation on speed, intensity, and fearless switch-ups drifting between drum & bass, dubstep, and full-throttle dancefloor energy. With collaborations alongside Hedex, Turno, and Georgie Riot, and radio backing from BBC Radio 1, Kiss FM UK, and Studio Brussels, his name appears frequently across some of the world’s most influential bass platforms. On the touring front, he has commanded massive stages including Rampage, DNB Allstars Festival, Tomorrowland, and Sunrise Festival, solidifying his reach far beyond Belgian borders.
Together, Primate and Captain Bass deliver “Irresistible” as a storm-swept slice of modern drum & bass. Rich with mood, melody, and maritime tension, the pair pushes their shared vision into deeper, more evocative territory while adding a fresh highlight to Bassrush’s ever-expanding catalog of dancefloor powerhouses.

More About Primate
This whizz-kid has been causing some serious movements in our scene lately. Originating from Ghent, Belgium, this gentleman defi nitely managed to leave his mark on us throughout the years. Growing up with family members including writers, theatrists and jazz musicians, he picked up the early stages of musicmaking at the age of 11. Later on playing allround music at local events and birthdays the like, Primate honed his skills and developed a special taste in Electronic Music and Drum & Bass.Widening his spectrum along the road, seeing productions in all genres imaginable, he became more memorable for his screechy basses and hard hitting drums. This would land him his fi rst actual Drum & Bass show back in 2018, thus carving the path to the now indispensable jump-up headliner he is today. Lockdowns & outdoor-festivals have further shapen Primate’s sound into the more melodic & technical side you hear from him nowadays. He does this wonderfully and has been releasing more and more quality themed productions, both in Drum & Bass and other Electronic genres. Primate manages to always keep his gritty roots, whilst still radiating harmonic & emotional sounds. Last but not least, he’s never scared of a little camera action, and continues to take over social media platforms, further defi ning him into an awesome entertainer. We’re excited to see what the future holds for Primate, you never know what his next release might bring.
