REVENGE IS SERVED IN CLAUDE VONSTROKE’S KILLER “THE RAIN BREAK”

REVENGE IS SERVED IN CLAUDE VONSTROKE’S KILLER

“THE RAIN BREAK”

Claude VonStroke releases his first EP of 2016, The Rain Break, but ahead of the occasion, he’s sharing the music video for its title track.

VonStroke’s previous EP, Barrump (and his Dirtybird label in general), has come to be associated with light-hearted, off-kilter entertainment—you won’t find that here. The creative direction goes much darker as the video follows a young woman dressed in a hulking pink fur coat, walking sullenly but fiercely down the street in a mission to enact revenge on a friend (or maybe something more?) for betraying her. Cue shots of a sweaty, smoke-filled dancefloor, a quick trip to the liquor store, and a fiery ending that does not bode well for the offending party.

“The Rain Break” is poised to be yet another success for Vonstroke and crew with its hard-edged, funky bassline and vocoded vocals, which were recorded by VonStroke himself. It was heavily inspired by two 80s songs: Raze’s “Break for Love” and Oran Juice Jones’ “The Rain.”

In a press release, VonStroke explained how the track came together: “I kept singing the ‘Break For Love’ bassline over and over again in my head but the vocal that always popped in over the top was from Oran Juice Jones. I can’t explain why that happened but I just thought they went together so well that I ran with it.”
