Sharam Announces ‘A Warehouse’ Album, Shares Lead Single ‘Same
Sharam initially earned attention as one half of the duo Deep Dish, a group that won a Grammy for its remixing abilities and scaled the dance charts behind singles like “Say Hello.” The DJ/producer struck out on his own with a solo full-length in 2009, and today he’s announcing follow-up, A Warehouse, which will arrive June 10th through Yoshitioshi Recordings.
To describe his new album, Sharam relied on a playful extended metaphor. “Every track is its own adventure, like an individual ride in a theme park,” he noted in a statement. “Each ride has to stand on its own, but come together as one cohesive unit in the context of the theme park. In this case the theme park is A Warehouse, filled with hypnotic rides and emotional rollercoasters.”
Billboard is premiering one of those hypnotic rides today: “Same,” which features vocals from the singer Anousheh. In an email, the producer called the single “a product of my love for late 70’s and early 80’s disco, particularly the style pioneered by Giorgio Moroder that morphed into italo disco in later years.” Listen below.
“With this track and the album as a whole, I went back to my early influences,” Sharam continued. That foundation includes “disco and later the hypnotic, early house records that became the basis for acid and techno.” In addition to returning to some of the music that initially inspired him, Sharam reconnected with a longtime collaborator – Anousheh also appeared on Deep Dish tracks like “Flashdance” and the hit “Say Hello,” along with the producer’s debut album. “I discovered [her] on a public access channel in 2004,” Sharam remembered.
In conjunction with his new album, the producer will hit the road for an American tour that kicks off on the west coast in the beginning of June. Check out the full list of dates below.
