SONARA Records shares “Electric (Iorie’s Farewell Remix),” Berlin producer Iorie’s take on the Nico Stojan and Tooker original and a tribute to Nico. It follows “Wake Up” as the second SONARA release since his passing.
Iorie and Nico had crossed paths at events for years but rarely spoke. That changed this year, when Iorie made an upcycle edit of Nico’s “Ginkgo.” Nico loved it, and the two finally got talking. Nico shared some of his unreleased music, including “Electric,” and told Iorie the story behind it. Iorie fell for the lead melody and asked to remix it, and Nico sent over the stems with a warm voice message that now opens the track. Two weeks after Iorie started the first version, Nico passed away. The remix became Iorie’s way of finding closure, threaded with short eight-bar citations of favourite Nico tracks, from “Ginkgo” to breaks and remixes.
“Nico’s music is a huge part of my education in electronic music, and of my heart and soul,” says Iorie. “When I got the news that he had passed, it completely shook me. A door had just opened, and a wonderful new person had come into my life, someone so joyful and with such a positive way of seeing the world. The remix became my way of finding some closure. I wove in short eight-bar citations from my favourite Nico tracks. It’s the last gift I can give on Nico’s way.”
At nearly seven minutes, the melodic house rework opens with Nico’s voice. The lead melody that first drew Iorie in carries the track, with pieces of Nico’s catalogue woven throughout.
Nico Stojan was a Berlin-born DJ and producer known for deep, emotional sets and long-form storytelling. A longtime Bar25 resident, he co-founded Ouïe Music with Acid Pauli and, in 2025, SONARA with Tooker, David Mayer, and Jay Kurahashi-Sofue. Tooker is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and SONARA co-founder with releases on Crosstown Rebels, Mobilee, and Sol Selectas.
Iorie is a Berlin producer, live act, and DJ, and a veteran of the city’s downtempo and slow house scene. His early track “Golden Spree” began a long run with Berlin club and label Ritter Butzke, and in 2016 he founded Serafin Audio Imprint, home to his genre-defining “What is Downtempo?” A sought-after remixer with more than 50 remixes to his name, he has played Fusion, Melt, Wonderfruit, and Envision. His latest release, “Down to the Beat” with Bawab, came out on KataHaifisch in 2026.
