Steve Angello inducted into BBC Radio 1 Hall of Fame

Steve Angello, one-third of Swedish House Mafia and massively successful solo artist in his own right, has been inducted into the elite BBC Radio 1 Hall of Fame. Pete Tongbestowed the honor on the Swedish producer and DJ, and spoke with him about past influences and future plans.

Steve Angello lists disco and hip-hop among his earliest musical influences, and legends like Moby, Daft Punk,Chemical Brothers, and Faithless from the dance sphere. He recalls his formative years when- almost inconceivably today- dance music was not popular in his hometown of Stockholm, and how he and Sebastian Ingrosso played parties for less than 100 people.

Unsurprisingly, Swedish House Mafia is discussed as well. Angello grew up with Ingrosso, and described early sets of the trio as three distinct sets, played one after another, with the artists occasionally playing together at the end of the night. “I feel like I’ve been part of something really amazing. I’m humbled that I could live through something like that,” he recalls.

After receiving this prestigious honor, Tong asks, what is Angello’s new goal? “Mastering what I’m doing.” Angello recently released the first chapter of his much-anticipated album Wild Youth. Listen to the full interview below.
