Swedish queer artist and producer JÁNA releases new single ‘Ignorancy’. The alt-pop, R&B-laced track’s static synth and steady beat is paired with an infectious topline, with influences of early Frank Ocean and Tame Impala. JÁNA has produced and written the song together with Swedish producer FAMILY_TIME – who has also worked with the likes of Lily Allen, Oscar Scheller, Ady Suleiman and JONES – Stream ‘Ignorancy’ here.
JÁNA comments on the track “‘Ignorancy’ is about the ignorant act of having relationships with people I know were unavailable, either emotionally or in another way occupied by something or someone. While writing the track this became clearer to me for each time me and my co-producer Kalle (FAMILY_TIME) met in the studio I’d had new experiences that made me relate even more to the song and I think I finally landed in it being about my own ignorance.”
JÁNA, (aka Johanna Andrén) was introduced to the world via her collaborations with Swedish heavyweights Little Dragon on her acclaimed debut solo EP ‘Flowerworks’. A mediation on relationships in general – as well as a chronicle of one of her own past relationships, JÁNA’s unique R&B / lo-fi pop hybrid captured the attention of the likes of The Fader “lush guitars and jazzy, minimal beats”, Lyrical Lemonade “a memorable debut that’s sure to put JÁNA on the map on a global level”, COLORS, The Line Of Best Fit, as well as Spotify and Apple. She followed up with the single ‘Green’, featuring Nigerian-American duo VanJess, Jazz-inflected slice of R&B at its finest – all of this culminated into a 2020 Grammy nomination in Sweden.
In 2022, JÁNA released her second EP ‘Works’, also written with Little Dragon, FAMILY_TIME, Simon on the Moon and Frank Ocean’s bassist, Ben Reed. She followed this with a remix of the single ‘Joyride’ feat. Vic Mensa, which received support from BBC Radio 1. This summer has seen JÁNA support Leon Bridges, along with performances at All Points East in London, Lollapalooza and Way Out West festivals in Sweden.
‘Ignorancy’ is the first track to be taken from JÁNA’s debut album, due for release in 2023 – Stream ‘Ignorancy’ here.
