The Chainsmokers Thrill Billboard Winterfest 2016 With Current and Future Hits
Opening with an acoustic version of current hit single “Roses,” The Chainsmokers treated Billboard Winterfest at Park City Live to an assortment of recognizable remixes and DJ set standards on Thursday night (Jan. 21).
Following a spirited set from opening act Burns, the first half of the New York duo’s set featured dance-floor-focused reworks of Billboard Hot 100 hits like Walk the Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance” and Tove Lo’s “Habits (Stay High),” before pivoting to their original material after a crowd-pleasing homage to Disney’s The Lion King.
“Yo, this is super f**king lit!” announced Drew Taggart. “We’ve played here like four times, but this is the craziest yet. Turn off all the lights — I want to get super f–king intimate with you.”
After the house technicians complied with their request, the Chainsmokers launched into a remix of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Under the Bridge,” then seamlessly segued into the full performance of “Roses” mashed up with Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself” in a fitting homage to the pop star who has supported the hit single in live performance and social media.
“Park City, how are you feeling right now?” Taggart hollered into the mic, while the song’s layered synth lines prompted fans to raise their phones in a sea of Snapchat stories.
After extending their set in the intimate setting with a full-throated sing-along to Blink 182’s “I Miss You” and Avicii’s “Waiting for Love,” the dance artists finished strong with forthcoming single, “Don’t Let Me Down,” which promises to build on the unexpected momentum of “Roses” following its release in the weeks ahead.
