YAANO and Vanessa Strike Perfect Balance Between Mayhem and Melancholy With Cutting-Edge Drum & Bass Single “Let Go” on NIGHTMODE

YAANO returns to NIGHTMODE with “Let Go,” a haunting new cut that blurs the edges of drum and bass with soul-soaked vocals and razorwire sound design. Dropping May 16, this follow-up to “USED2” hits harder and dives deeper as he’s joined by genre-blurring vocalist Vanessa, whose jazz-informed delivery adds a striking human element to his astounding technical production.

Built on tension and catharsis, “Let Go” moves like a storm held just beneath the surface. Vanessa’s jazz-informed delivery glides with soul and subtle grit, anchoring the chaos as YAANO unleashes a barrage of detuned drones, erratic claps, and rugged bass textures that feel scraped from another dimension. The track stretches toward something bigger—grief, relief, euphoria—all bleeding into one.

The collaboration sparked when YAANO discovered Vanessa’s single “Hands.” Captivated by her tone, he reverse-engineered a soundscape designed for intimacy, threading flickers of hope through waves of distortion. The result is raw, deliberate, and surgically layered with each element earned through sheer studio obsession.

YAANO’s presence in the scene has been building fast. Following his NIGHTMODE debut “USED2,” he’s racked up support from NGHTMRE, SLANDER, IMANU, Zeds Dead, and Alison Wonderland, alongside media praise from UKF, IHouseU, Fresh Music Freaks, and more. On stage, he’s made appearances at landmark venues and festivals across Europe—FOLD, Le Bikini, Outlook—and is set to play Overview Day Party and Drumsheds this summer.

With “Let Go,” YAANO cements his position in the new wave of artists reshaping drum and bass from the inside out. In a genre obsessed with momentum, this track slows the frame just enough to make you feel what usually gets buried in the noise.

“This release is an amalgamation of trial and error, trying to find a balance between enjoyable sounds to hit in a club whilst still maintaining emotion and pleasure in a listening experience. I really focused on writing as much music as I could, and then handpicking my favourites that made sense together and evoked consistent feelings. The main feelings I’ve aimed to evoke are euphoria, hope and satisfaction. Shoutout NIGHTMODE for bringing this EP to life and providing a platform to share it. I hope you all enjoy! This track represents, sonically, my mood and direction currently with drum and bass, and aims to shine a more enjoyable and progressive light on what else the genre has to offer, which people probably aren’t hearing in the more commercial circles. I hope you all enjoy and, of course, a big shoutout to NIGHTMODE for showing belief in the track!”—YAANO

More About YAANO

Among a talented new cohort opening doors to the wider dance music scene, is Bristol-based YAANO. For the past 5 years, Jersey-born James Pires has rubbed shoulders with the best in Drum & Bass, releasing on labels such as Critical Music and UKF’s Pilot with EP after EP of percussive, asymptotic bass-weight. Biding his time and surrounding himself with like-minded artists has resulted in numerous collaborations including ‘Life Like This’ with IMANU & fellow dynamo VISLA, and ‘Shatter’ with Critical boss Kasra. Drawing in further success as a DJ, he’s billed across the UK and Europe at renowned stages like FOLD, Le Bikini, and Outlook Festival. Laying down the groundwork in bass music afforded him the creative dexterity to jump at new ideas and platforms. Often accompanying his drum and bass tracks are slower-tempo numbers just as well-developed and polished, treading into UK Garage, Dubstep and House. Parallel influences from Indie, R’n’B, and Hip Hop, become potent reinterpretations in his productions. In his own words, “If you change your technique from what you usually do you’re bound to get different results but you’ll also develop your own sound.” All this is to suggest that YAANO is a maneuverable and perceptive artist, poised to refresh his sound again and again.
