Recently, we reported Apple’s rumored plans to eliminate music downloads from their business model. Now, Apple has spoken up regarding the alleged statement.

It’s quite unlike the company to publicly address rumors, but this speculative strategy made its rounds through the internet rather quickly and caught some serious attention. Perhaps it’s an attempt to brush their plans out of the public’s mind, or maybe they’re actually serious about not eliminating downloads altogether, but Apple’s response certainly leaves room for speculation.

Apple spokesman Tom Neumayr gave a short, succinct statement regarding the end of iTunes downloads.

“Not true.”

Neumayr denied further comment, but he struck down the validity of both proposed timelines which said Apple could kill downloads in as soon as two years or within three to four. Streaming is certainly growing, and Apple Music is rapidly catching up to their download segment, but downloads aren’t going anywhere for a while.
