Amsterdam-based Moody Mehran has risen through the ranks to the international stage with a sound not married to a single style or genre. Instead, he draws inspiration from across the electronic spectrum. Chicago house, timeless grooves and authentic emotions all colour his work, and he is the co-founder of Diaspora Radio and Acid Hamam, so he channels his infectious energy into building vibrant communities wherever he goes. This new EP is for open-air floors and festival moments and is simple, euphoric and highly effective.
Opener ‘Cruise Terminal’ taps into classic OG trance with expansive, emotive synth lines gliding over a steady, pumping bass, while airy pads evoke that endless-horizon feeling. A perfect sundowner cut for the warmest months of the year. ‘Come On Now’ then layers rapid minor-key arpeggios over a slamming four-to-the-floor groove. Playful vocal snippets punctuate the arrangement and push with urgency. Each offbeat clap adds momentum and locks dancers deeper into Moody Mehran’s tight, hypnotic groove.
Frankfurt-based remixer Maruwa blends ’90s and early 2000s trance aesthetics with a contemporary edge. Her rework of ‘Cruise Terminal’ comes through a more progressive lens, with driving drum patterns and sharpened dynamics adding punch while preserving its uplifting, sunlit core.
‘SURE!’ Is then an intense, tribal-leaning workout that gets a crowd going as layered, tension-rising synth sequences collide with Latin percussion and stabbing lead synths à la Da Hool. Sitting somewhere between straight-up trance and that unmistakable old-school Love Parade sound, this one hits with full conviction. Slowing things down, closing track ‘Learn 2 Love’ leans into a more introspective, emotional space. Washed-out pads with high-resonance sweeps tickle the brain while a classic bassline and rolling drums gradually build anticipation. Dreamy and immersive, this is one to get lost in.
