Leaning deeper into the shadowy textures of trap and hardwave, the L.A.-based producer crafts a hauntingly immersive experience with this release. The track melds trance-inspired soundscapes with brooding garage beats, all underlined by a driving melodic motif that captures the listener in a trance-like loop. With layers of growling synths, hypnotic progressions, and ethereal embellishments, Hex Cougar’s production teeters on the edge of nostalgia, yet feels undeniably forward-thinking.

“Still In Love” began with a striking melody that Hex Cougar captured in the early morning after an intense dream, which now serves as the track’s heartbeat. The melody shifts and evolves as it intertwines with different tonal layers, channeling the hypnotic, atmospheric quality of ‘90s and early 2000s trance with a dark, modern twist. Originally dubbed a “garage trance idea,” the track took on its title from a resonant vocal sample that leaves room for the listener’s interpretation.

Breaking down the main motif that the track is anchored to, Hex Cougar touches on the tracks’ central focus: “The whole song revolves around one melody—from the beginning of the song to the end, there isn’t a single moment where it’s absent. While incredibly simple, I love how concise and straightforward it is. Some of my favorite songs revolve around just one melody; what makes those pieces of music interesting is how that melody is translated across different instruments and how the tone and mood of that melody can be changed depending on what the supporting elements in the song are doing around it at a particular moment.

Following his acclaimed collaboration with VARI on BREAK ROOM’s inaugural track “Ultra,” this release solidifies Hex Cougar’s position as one of the label’s key voices. With over 70 million streams and the backing of industry stalwarts like Skrillex, RL Grime, and Illenium, his sound continues to make waves across the electronic landscape. His music has received airplay on BBC Radio 1 and Diplo’s Revolution, with recent live highlights at festivals like Salt Lake City’s Get Freaky underscoring his live prowess.

BREAK ROOM, launched by Insomniac to champion the emerging sounds of hardwave and trap, reflects their commitment to spotlighting groundbreaking talent in dance music. “Still In Love” encapsulates the label’s ethos, appealing to both radio listeners and festival crowds with its distinct, genre-blurring character.
