EDM has been making waves in India with almost all top DJs and international acts having played in India last year, at Vh1 Supersonic, Sunburn and EVC. This year will see Sensation, the ‘World’s leading dance event’, coming to India in a landmark move for India’s dance scene.

Sensation is pulling a few bold moves by bringing the risqué ‘Pleasure Dome’ concept to India which is the sensual side of the festival. It also has made some unexpected moves by hosting the event in Hyderabad, the city of the Nizam. The open air venue, Gachibowli Stadium, has proved to be perfect and the Sensation team, after scouting four cities, found Hyderabad to be the perfect playground for the ‘Pleasuredome’.

Acrobats, performers, DJs and tens of thousands of event goers will all contribute their part to this unique dance manifestation. As already mentioned, a team of 30 engineers work on the design and construction of the show for 5 months. The pyro design includes more than 70 positions from where the pyro will be shot. The show contains more than 800 LED lights, these lights are specially designed for the show and can be controlled individually. It will travel with 10 containers from Amsterdam to India by road and water. The stage is a big carousel with flying horses.
Sensation was held for the first time in the Netherlands in 2000, where the show has been running annually since. Sensation’s white dress code was, however sadly, born from a tragic event. Duncan Stutterheim, one of the three founders of ID&T, lost his brother Miles in a car accident in 2001. As a tribute to Miles, all visitors where informally asked to dress in white for the 2001 show. More than 80% of the visitors adhered to this tribute. This marked the birth of the well-known Sensation dress code as we know it today.

Sensation India was going to take place on 6th February and it has always been known to tease the line-up two weeks before the event. But when people on 22nd January were waiting for the lineup, Sensation had some important announcement to make.

Sensation posted the following details:
“ALERT! Due to the upcoming local body elections to be held in Hyderabad in first week of February, we in consultation with the authorities has decided to reschedule the event to March 5th – 2016. The event is now going to be bigger and better than before. You current ticket will be valid for March 5. Please carry the print out of your confirmation mail to the box office at the Gachibowli Stadium on the show day.
There will be no change in the venue, dress code, timings of the event. We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to you and look forward to your continued support. We hope to see you at Sensation India.”
This post surely left many fans with a hollow hearts. But Sensation has promised it will be bigger and better, and we hope it is. For now the line-up is still under wraps but with the Sensation label, the anticipation is definitely worth it. The tickets for Sensation India are out now and with close to 30,000 people expected to turn out at the event the tickets are in short supply.
